The Steering Committee

The Shelley Joseph-Kordell Award and Scholarship General Steering Committee is made up of professionals from area organizations that work with seniors and/or address issues on aging. We are grateful for the support they have lent in establishing this Tribute, and we have included information about each of these groups below:

English Rose Suites combines exceptional, dignified individual care with loving and thoughtful caregivers. All team members are expertly trained in the most up to date information on dementia care and programming. It's their mission to be the Employer of Choice, to create learning opportunities for the staff that support and encourage individual development while advancing the quality of care for all residents who live at English Rose Suites.

We envision a future where residents are healthy and successful and where our communities are safe and vibrant. We will strive to meet and exceed expectations by engaging people and communities in developing innovative solutions to challenges. We will be a diverse, learning organization. We will partner with others to enhance the quality of life in Hennepin County and the region.

The Home Instead Senior Care family network of locally owned franchise offices was developed with a passionate desire to be your trusted source in helping your family keep your aging mother, father, grandparents or friends in their home as they grow older.  Home Instead Senior Care® serves seniors with extraordinary home care and elderly companionship in the St. Paul - Northern Suburbs area.

The Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging is the designated area agency on aging for the seven county metropolitan area. The Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging is a catalyst in building communities where elders live with dignity, mutual respect and shared responsibilities across generations and cultures.

Midwest Geriatric Care Managers Association
Private Geriatric Care Managers as represented by the Midwest Geriatric Care Managers Association are professionals with degrees in the field of human services (social work, psychology, gerontology) or substantial equivalent (i.e. RN), who are certified or licensed at the independent practice level in their state.

The Mission of the Minneapolis Area Senior Workers Association (MASWA) is to develop a multidisciplinary community of professionals working in the field of aging who are educated, supported and interconnected so they may improve services and advocate for older adults.

City of Minneapolis Senior Ombudsman
The Minneapolis Senior Ombudsman assists a growing, diverse population of seniors, people with disabilities, new arrivals, and people in low-income households. Coordinating with agencies, programs, and professionals both in Minneapolis and beyond the city limits, the ombudsman provides information and assistance so that individuals can fully utilize resources that let them meet their needs and maintain independent living.

Padilla Speer Beardsley Inc., a multi-specialty communications and public relations consulting firm headquartered in Minneapolis, is helping to organize and promote the Shelley Joseph-Kordell Award and Scholarship Ceremony.

Pathfinder Care Management/"Rent A Daughter™ has over 50 years of combined experience providing seniors and their families with knowledgeable and trustworthy caregiving advice. Our professional staff of RN's and LSW's are certified Geriatric Care Managers specializing in providing advocacy and coordinating care for older people.  Because we do most anything a caring family member would do for an elder, many of our clients think of us as their "Rent A Daughter™.

St. Paul Senior Workers Association
The SJK Steering Committee would like to thank the St. Paul Senior Workers Association for their support on the steering committee.

The University of Minnesota Center on Aging coordinates education and research on aging across the campus. It includes members from over 28 University departments and colleges. It oversees the federally funded Minnesota Area Geriatric Education Center. It operates a Minor in Gerontology, which is available to graduate students at the masters and doctorate levels. It is the home for the Shelley Joseph-Kordell Memorial Scholarship.
