2005 Ceremony
The first annual Shelley
Joseph-Kordell Award and Scholarship Ceremony presented
its inaugural awards, created to honor the life of Shelley
Joseph-Kordell, a geriatric care manager and pioneer in the
field of advocacy for seniors who died in 2003.
In addition to honoring Ms. Joseph-Kordell’s
work with the elderly, the ceremony celebrates people who work with
seniors by recognizing their commitment and dedication to the elderly,
and aims to raise the profile of aging-related issues. The ceremony was
held at the Earle Brown Center in Brooklyn Center on Friday, October 28.
The Master of Ceremonies was Former Secretary of
State Joan Growe; the Honorable Walter F. Mondale
was the keynote speaker. In his remarks, Mr. Mondale
stressed the importance of Ms. Joseph-Kordell’s work
with seniors and praised the generosity and
selflessness for which she was known.
